Employment Counsellor, Settlement Worker & Project Coordinator

My previous and current positions within Community Organizations have prepared me to meet the needs of residents, whether they are looking for job opportunities or/and settlement services.

At Windsor Women Working with Immigrant Women whose mission is to assist immigrant and refugee women and their families to become full and participating members of the Canadian Society, I adhere to the objectives of providing a welcoming and supportive space for newcomers and first-generation Canadians, identifying and eliminating systemic barriers faced by immigrants and refugees and providing culturally sensitive settlement services focusing on the needs of newcomers and first-generation Canadians.

EMPLOYMENT COUNSELLOR/JOB DEVELOPER

My duties are but not limited to:

  • Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background, career goals, etc.;

  • Identify barriers to employment and assist clients to develop job readiness skills and job search strategies;

  • Support and monitor clients as they progress through their Employment Service Plans;

  • Support clients in accessing programs;

  • Provide local labor market information;

  • Provide direct job matching of current openings to the clients;

  • Conduct outreach to clients and employers and the community;

  • Follow-up with clients at appropriate intervals to assess progress and record outcomes.

 

SETTLEMENT WORKER & PROJECT COORDINATOR

My duties were but not limited to:

  • Support and advocate on behalf of newcomer residents of Windsor and Essex County, improving their opportunities to become independent Citizens in the City of Windsor and Essex County;

  • Provide support for school enrolment for newcomer family members as necessary;

  • Provide services in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner;

  • Meet with clients to assess their settlement strengths and needs;

  • Assist clients to prioritize their settlement needs and facilitate appropriate referrals both internally and externally to community services.

In all these circumstances, my priority is always to listen to the client, build a report and propose options.
